Dutch Lion’s 2023 “Midseason” College Football (Un)Spectacular

Dutch Lion’s 2023 “Midseason” College (Un)Spectacular

I know what you’re thinking…. where has this Preview been hiding? It’s been marinating in the beautiful mind of our author, the Dutch Lion. For whatever reason, we’ve not been able to blast it all out there. It’s like verbal constipation, if you will. I won’t, but thanks for asking.

As our longtime readers already know, Dutch Lion’s Spectacular is inspired by Sports Illustrated’s annual football previews published when the Lion was just a pup back in the 1980s.

To recap the history of our last two Spectaculars, we’ve had a mixed bag of results regarding our predictions. In 2021 we correctly tabbed all three Champions across the NCAA (Georgia), the NFL (L.A. Rams), and even the CFL (Winnipeg). Last year…. well, it didn’t go as successfully. We picked the Ohio State Buckeyes, who lost to Georgia 42-41 in the national semifinal. In the NFL, we chose the Buffalo Bills, who lost in the AFC Playoffs to Cincinnati 27-10. In the Canadian League, we took Calgary over Toronto in the 109th Grey Cup. Calgary ended up losing in the West semifinal to the B.C. Lions 30-16.

This year…. we can hope. Don’t worry… the first few weeks of the season had no input on these predictions. In fact, these predictions go all the way back to Spring Ball.

This year’s NCAA National Champion will be the….

University of Michigan Wolverines

Dutch Lion’s 2023 CFP

  1. Michigan
  2. Georgia
  3. Ohio St.
  4. Florida St.

On New Years Day, it will be Michigan beating Florida State in the Rose Bowl while Georgia beats Ohio State in the other semifinal, the Sugar Bowl. Then one week later, on January 8, Michigan will somehow defeat the UGA Bulldogs in a physical battle testing hearts and souls in the 2023 National Championship Game.

I don’t care that Jim Harbaugh has been suspended for the last three regular season games. His program is top notch and has been for three straight seasons now. They have overtaken Ohio State as the B1G’s best, mainly because they are committed to being more physical. Is Ohio State working on it? Yes they are, but it won’t be quite enough yet this year.

Despite all the turmoil and possible malfeasance by Michigan regarding the sign-stealing scandal, the Wolverines will never forget 2023 as they finally slay the dragon, the two-time defending Champion Bulldogs. Michigan will be your 2023 College Football National Champion.

  1. Love this Michigan energy. Michigan has certainly proven their physicality all season long. I’m not a die hard fan, but it’s been so fun watching them play (with and without Harbaugh). Enjoy the MI win versus Iowa this weekend!

    1. Thanks Bruce! I too am pumped. What a mess the Committee has. I’m not exactly sure what I would do…. it’s a quagmire. My first thought is 1. Michigan 2. Washington 3. Florida State 4. Texas

    2. Bruce, I am NOT happy with the Playoff committee today. I think it was a travesty what they did to Florida State’s players, coaches, and fans. I might write a quick column about it. What do you think?

      1. Mrs. Chess has had to hear my bitching about this for an entire day. What a mess. I have heard so many people’s opinions at this point. Florida State is a victim of not being in the SEC or Big Ten. The CFP, whether it is 4 teams or 12, is just a television show. They look to generate as many eyeballs as possible. My opinion is if Florida State won that ACC Championship by 30 points they still were not getting in. It’s sad, but these two conferences will wind up being the only two left.

      2. Sorry for Mrs. Chess. My wife has to endure this all day, almost every day. Plus, now my teen son is a part of the discussion and he loves repeating everything I say. Oh poor Mrs. Dutch Lioness. LOL
