Chicago Bears/Baltimore Ravens Preview

Baltimore Ravens (6-3) at Chicago Bears (3-6) Preview

The Chicago Bears are headed nowhere fast. The 2021 season is officially caving in. Now that OLB #52 Khalil Mack has been labeled out for the season because of his foot injury, we’ve been given the sign we’ve been waiting for… that the Bears have officially/unofficially thrown in the towel.

Troy Aikman’s AER

  • Baltimore Ravens (6-3) : 6th offense, 7th defense
  • Chicago Bears (3-6) : 28th offense, 19th defense

Football Outsiders

  • Baltimore : 11th overall, 10th offense, 25th defense, 2nd special teams
  • Chicago : 26th overall, 27th offense, 22nd defense, 13th special teams

Team Rankings

  • Baltimore : 11th overall
  • Chicago : 27th overall

An interesting nugget I found on TeamRankings.com was the “common opponents” statistic. Believe it or not, the Bears and Ravens have played three common opponents so far. Chicago is 3-0 over Cincinnati, Las Vegas, and Detroit while Baltimore is only 1-2 with losses to both the Bengals and Raiders.

Sports Betting Dime

They have the Ravens winning 24.4 to 11.9 over the Bears using their predictive formula.

Prediction:

There are many injuries to worry about Sunday for both teams. For the Ravens, it starts with superstar QB Lamar Jackson. He’s missed three of the last four practices with an illness. Coach John Harbaugh claims it’s a non-Covid illness. Nonetheless, will he play? Obviously if Lamar sits, that is a huge difference in the game. The Ravens backup is Tyler Huntley. Baltimore is also thin at running back after many injuries in the preseason. Now WR Marquise “Hollywood” Brown is out with a thigh. Not only is he busy eating chicken from Popeye’s , but Brown’s leg hurts too. Ouch.

The Bears are missing OLB Khalil Mack, DT Akiem Hicks, and ILB Danny Trevathan. FS Eddie Jackson is questionable. On offense, WR Allen Robinson is doubtful with a hamstring. WR Darnell Mooney is also questionable.

As long as Lamar Jackson plays for Baltimore, we like the Ravens chances. Chicago is just not very good right now. Baltimore is favored by 5 points at Soldier Field. John Harbaugh is one of the best coaches in the NFL and he’ll find a way to win the game for the Ravens who are simply a better team than the Bears. Pick: Baltimore to win S/U and cover the spread ATS.

UPDATE! Lamar Jackson was declared OUT on Sunday morning. The point spread is now Baltimore -4.5. So we have an updated prediction! We’re going to take the Ravens score down yet still covering the new spread.
