Gary “The Gut” Goombah – Week 2, 2024
Opening week didn’t exactly go perfectly for Gary “The Gut” with his college football predictions. He went 2-3 out of 5 opening selections. That’s ok. It’s early.
Week 2 promises to be much better, now that Gary has had a chance to get caught up after traveling from his humble island in the South Pacific. (Don’t ask me where it is, he is very secretive about his whereabouts.) Now that he’s settled into his mansion here in the States, “The Gut” is better acclimated to provide killer gambling information. Will it produce results?…. most assuredly. Will it produce winning results?… perhaps.
First, a recap of Week 1:
- Clemson +12.5 over Georgia – Final Score: Georgia won 34-3. Result: LOST
- West Virginia +7.5 over Penn St. – Final Score: Penn St. won 34-12. Result: LOST
- Notre Dame +2.5 over Texas A&M – Final Score: Notre Dame won 23-13. Result: WON
- Miami -2.5 over Florida – As you may have read, Miami is Dutch Lion’s breakout team this year. They will go into the Swamp and make a statement. Final Score: Miami indeed made a statement, winning 41-17. Result: WON
- LSU -4.5 over USC – This was a great game that went back and forth all night. Looked like Gary had a win with LSU, but then the Tigers caved in at the end. Final Score: USC won 27-20. Result: LOST
Week 1 Record: 2-3
Overall Record: 2-3
Week 2
NCAA Selections
Friday Night Lights special: SMU Mustangs (-11.5) over BYU Cougars – Get to know the SMU Mustangs tonight. They are new to the Power 4 as they moved from the AAC (American Athletic Conference) to the ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference). SMU was 11-3 last year, scoring over 38 ppg. They’ve scored over 37 ppg for five straight years now! They can score with anyone, and have 8 returning offensive starters. They also claim 7 returners on defense. PICK: SMU
Nebraska Cornhuskers (-7.5) over Colorado Buffaloes – Everyone knows Dutch Lion’s affinity with Nebraska. This week Gary “The Gut” agrees. Take the ‘Huskers over the Buffs in this latest rivalry rematch. PICK: Nebraska
N.C. State Wolfpack (+9.5) over Tennessee Volunteers – Tennessee is really good, but 9.5 points at N.C. State might be too much. PICK: N.C. State
Notre Dame Fighting Irish (-28.5) over NIU Huskies – NIU can’t hang with ND in South Bend. PICK: Notre Dame
Ohio State Buckeyes (-38.5) over Western Michigan Broncos – Ohio State is out to dominate. 38.5 points… is it too high? Not for the Buckeyes. PICK: Ohio State
NFL Selections
Chicago Bears (-4.5) over Tennessee Titans – The Bears are filled with hope and hype. At home in Soldier Field, the Bears should handle the Titans. PICK: Chicago
Buffalo Bills (-6.5) over Arizona Cardinals – The Bills (12-7 last year), at home in Rich Stadium (uhh, Highmark Stadium) should roll against the Cards (4-13 last year). PICK: Buffalo
Dallas Cowboys (+2.5) over Cleveland Browns – The Cowboys are an underdog, on the road. Last year, Dallas went 0-4 ATS in this scenario. Last year, Cleveland was 6-0 ATS as a home favorite. Here’s thinking they both get off to different starts in ’24. PICK: Dallas
New York Giants (+1.5) over Minnesota Vikings – The Giants are a home underdog, to the very average Minnesota Vikings. I don’t see it. Neither does “The Gut”. PICK: N.Y. Giants
Indianapolis Colts (+2.5) over Houston Texans – To kickoff the season, the NFL has just two home underdogs in Week 1, the Giants, as listed above, and the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts were 9-8 last year. QB Anthony Richardson returns to the lineup. Gary thinks this is a good spot to pick an upset. PICK: Indianapolis
Good luck this week!
