Gary’s Week 3 Selections
NCAA Selections
- Notre Dame Fighting Irish (-9.5) over Purdue Boilermakers – After the Irish choked last week, why are we picking them again? Gary is doubling down on ND. “Let’s go double or nothing”, he said. We’re hesitant, but ok Gary. PICK: Notre Dame
- TCU Horned Frogs (+2.5) over UCF – Why is Texas Christian getting points at home? We’re not sure. Gary IS sure he’s placing money on the Frogs. PICK: TCU
- Ole Miss Rebels (-22.5) over Wake Forest Demon Deacons
- Troy Trojans (+22.5) over Iowa Hawkeyes
- Boston College Eagles (+16.5) over Missouri Tigers – Who would win a battle in the wild? Eagles or tigers? Not sure. It’s kind of a dumb idea. PICK: Boston College
- West Virginia Mountaineers (-1.5) over Pitt Panthers – The Backyard Brawl favors WVU this year. That’s because they’re really good, notwithstanding their opening flub vs Penn St. two weeks ago. PICK: West Virginia
NFL Selections
- Buffalo Bills (+2.5) over Miami Dolphins – Buffalo dumped Miami on Thursday Night Football. An early WIN going into the weekend.
- L.A. Chargers (-4.5) over Carolina Panthers
- San Francisco 49ers (-5.5) over Minnesota Vikings
- Dallas Cowboys (-6.5) over New Orleans Saints
- Baltimore Ravens (-8.5) over Las Vegas Raiders
- L.A. Rams (+1.5) over Arizona Cardinals
- Denver Broncos (+2.5) over Pittsburgh Steelers
Gary “The Gut” knows he’ll have better results this weekend. He better, or else the brass knuckles may start appearing in his dreams, uh…. we mean, his nightmares.

I did not mind you losing on Notre Dame because I root against them ever since they played for a tie in 1966 (I began hating the absence of a college playoff system back then too). But mostly because my middle son went to Boston College where they had almost as many anti-Notre Dame items in the bookstore as BC merchandise!

I’m a big Notre Dame fan (not sure Gary is, haha), but I’ve heard about that famous tie game with Michigan State in ’66. I believe it was ultra conservative play calling by Ara Parseghian, if I remember right. I’ve read about it, not sure I’ve seen video. Also, I’ve heard about the BC thing from a couple of friends that went to school there. Wild! The Catholics are serious!

We all looked forward to that game because it would truly crown an undisputed National Champion. My memory is that Notre Dame’s QB Hanratty was knocked out of the game and IMO Parseghian played for the tie at the end by running out the clock, knowing that the polls would make Notre Dame champion because they were a team with a national rather than a regional following. I was not a Michigan State fan (my parents went to Michigan) but I turned against Notre Dame that day. It has taken many years to banish ties and implement a playoff system that puts more of the decision on the playing field.
