Gary “The Gut” Goombah – Week 4, 2024

Gary “The Gut” Goombah- Week 4, 2024

Last week was going great…. and then Sunday rolled around. Gary did awesome on his college picks on Saturday. His NFL picks on Sunday were a little rough…. as rough as brass knuckles in the face? Well no, not that bad. The huge upsets defined Sunday afternoon as solid Super Bowl contenders Dallas, San Francisco, and Baltimore all took it on the chin.

Week 3 Recap

NCAA Selections

  • Notre Dame Fighting Irish (-9.5) over Purdue Boilermakers – ND destroyed Purdue as expected. Final Score: Notre Dame 66-7. Result: WON!
  • TCU Horned Frogs (+2.5) over UCF – TCU blew the lead, but lost by one point, 35-34. Result: WON!
  • Ole Miss Rebels (-22.5) over Wake Forest Demon Deacons – Ole Miss destroyed Wake by 34 points, 40-6. Result: WON!
  • Troy Trojans (+22.5) over Iowa Hawkeyes – Iowa won, but only by 17 points. Final Score: Iowa 38-21. Result: WON!
  • Boston College Eagles (+16.5) over Missouri Tigers – Missouri barely beat BC, by a final score of 27-21. Result: WON!
  • West Virginia Mountaineers (-1.5) over Pitt Panthers – Pitt won 38-34 in an excellent ballgame. Result: Lost

NFL Selections

  • Buffalo Bills (+2.5) over Miami Dolphins – Buffalo dumped Miami on Thursday Night Football. An early WIN going into the weekend. Result: WON!
  • L.A. Chargers (-4.5) over Carolina Panthers – The Chargers won 26-3 over a hapless Panthers team. Result: WON!
  • San Francisco 49ers (-5.5) over Minnesota Vikings – A huge upset. Final Score: Vikings 23-17. Result: Lost

  • Week 3 Results: 7-6 overall (5-1 NCAA, 2-5 NFL)
  • Season Results: 14-14 overall (9-7 NCAA, 5-7 NFL)

Gary’s Week 4 Selections

NCAA Selections

  • Washington Huskies (-11.5) over Northwestern Wildcats – Northwestern is just simply not very good. Washington is the defending runner-up. PICK: Washington
  • Indiana Hoosiers (-27.5) over Charlotte 49ers – Charlotte was only 3-9 last year, while Indiana has shown solid improvement. Gary thinks the Hoosiers will cover. PICK: Indiana
  • West Virginia Mountaineers (-2.5) over Kansas Jayhawks – WVU suffered a tough rivalry loss last weekend on the road at Pitt. We think they’ll rebound at home over KU. PICK: West Virginia
  • TCU Horned Frogs (-2.5) over SMU Mustangs – So far, SMU has looked average at best. Their offensive line simply can’t block. The coaches blamed it on QB Preston “The Stone Age” Stone, but it’s not his fault. Gary thinks the Frogs will cover this spread due to that inferior o-line. PICK: TCU
  • California Golden Bears (+2.5) over Florida St. Seminoles – FSU is so bad. Cal is actually pretty good, as they proved with a road win at Auburn. FSU is at home, but remember, they’re just not good. PICK: Cal
  • Oklahoma Sooners (+7.5) over Tennessee Volunteers – OU is getting over a touchdown at home. UT is really awesome, but they’re on the road. Last year, the Vols went 1-3 on the road. Over the last ten years, they are 16-27 on the road. Oklahoma is still a really good team. PICK: Oklahoma

“Gary’s Pick 6” NFL Selections

  • New York Jets (-6.5) over New England Patriots – The Jets handled the Pats last night to give us our first win of the weekend.
  • Chicago Bears (+1.5) over Indianapolis Colts – “The Gut” thinks the Bears will rebound after last week’s tough loss at Houston. “Dutch Lion” is picking the Bears to win 24-20. PICK: Chicago
  • Detroit Lions (-3) over Arizona Cardinals – Detroit suffered a loss at home last week. HC Dan Campbell will turn them around this week in practice. PICK: Detroit
  • San Francisco 49ers (-7.5) over Los Angeles Rams – San Fran will get refocused at home this Sunday. PICK: San Francisco
  • Buffalo Bills (-5.5) over Jacksonville Jaguars – Buffalo is rolling in the early going. They should beat the Jags by at least six points in Buffalo. PICK: Buffalo
  • Washington Commanders (+8.5) over Cincinnati Bengals – Gary thinks the Bengals might win straight up. However, this game we play isn’t about S/U. It’s about the point spread. Washington can keep it closer than 8.5 points. PICK: Washington

Good luck with your sports betting this weekend!
