Gary “The Gut” Goombah – Week 14, 2024
Week 13 Recap
Happy Thanksgiving! It’s the premier football weekend of the year, considering most of us have four or five days off of work in a row, and football is on TV the entire weekend. For colleges, it’s Rivalry Week. For the pros, it’s the annual Thanksgiving games at Detroit and Dallas after that morning parade.
We are excited and ready to gamble on this weekend’s games. First, let’s recap a raucous Week 13.
NCAA Selections last week
Senior Day: Rutgers Scarlet Knights (+1.5) over Illinois Fighting Illini – This was a super “Bad Beat” as Illinois, losing by one point, 31-30, scored on their last play of the game, a 4th down in which they changed their minds on attempting a field goal, and thus proceeded to score a 40 yard touchdown with four seconds left. Final Score: Illinois 38-31. Result: Lost

Gary’s Week 14 Selections
NCAA Selections
Notre Dame Fighting Irish (-7.5) over USC Trojans
Baylor Bears (+1.5) over Kansas Jayhawks – Baylor is 7-4. Kansas is 5-6. Baylor is home, and they are getting points. Something smells fishy down in Waco. PICK: Baylor
IRON BOWL: Alabama Crimson Tide (-11.5) over Auburn Tigers
THE GAME: Ohio St. Buckeyes (-20.5) over Michigan Wolverines – Gary “The Gut” thinks OSU will destroy Michigan, taking out all their frustration from three full years. The truth is, Michigan can’t hang with the Buckeyes this year. The talent is just too much to overcome. Emotion will play into it. Michigan can’t pass. If they try, it will get ugly against an aggressive OSU defense. PICK: Ohio St.
TCU Horned Frogs (-2.5) over Cincinnati Bearcats
LOCK of the WEEK : OLD OAKEN BUCKET – Indiana Hoosiers (-28.5) over Purdue Boilermakers – Gary sees the Hoosiers destroying their Indiana rivals, the Boilermakers. After last week’s disappointing showing in Ohio, the Hoosiers will run up the score on Purdue, who is a horrid team. Indiana is really great, but was due for a loss last week. This week, they will cover BIG. PICK: Indiana
Gary’s “Pick 6” NFL Selections
Indianapolis Colts (-2.5) over New England Patriots
Minnesota Vikings (-3.5) over Arizona Cardinals
Washington Redskins (-5.5) over Tennessee Titans
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-6.5) over Carolina Panthers
Buffalo Bills (-6.5) over San Francisco 49ers
Denver Broncos (-5.5) over Cleveland Browns
Last week was “Dog Day Afternoon”, as Gary picked mostly underdogs. As you can see, “The Gut” is taking all favorites in the NFL this week, and all but one favorite on the college gridiron. Will this be the magic formula for Thanksgiving success?
