Gary “The Gut” Goombah – Week 16, 2024
As we enter college football’s Bowl season, a little different format for Gary “The Gut” enters the horizon. This week, we will only make NFL selections. As usual, Gary’s “Pick Six” will help turn losers into winners. As for college football, we only had one game yesterday. For the record, Gary had Navy (+6) over Army (Navy won easy 31-13). Coming up in the near future will be Gary’s College Bowl Mania selections along with the expanded College Football Playoffs preview and predictions from Gary and/or “Dutch Lion”. For now, let’s recap last week:
Week 15 Recap
NCAA Selections last week – Conference Championship Saturday
Big 12 Championship (Dallas, TX) – Arizona State Sun Devils (-1.5) over Iowa St. Cyclones – Final Score: Arizona State won 45-19. Result: WON!
MAC Championship (Detroit, MI) – Miami (OH) Redhawks (-1.5) over Ohio Bobcats – Final Score: Ohio upset Miami (OH) 38-3. Result: Lost
SEC Championship (Atlanta, GA) – Texas Longhorns (-2.5) over Georgia Bulldogs – Final Score: Georgia once again beat the favored Longhorns 22-19 in OT. Will we ever learn? Result: Lost
Sun Belt Championship (Cajun Field, Lafayette, LA) – Marshall Thundering Herd (+5.5) over Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns – Gary was really proud of his selection on this game because he did MAD research. Final Score: Marshall bombed Louisiana 31-3. Result: WON!
ACC Championship (Charlotte, NC) – SMU Mustangs (-2.5) over Clemson Tigers – Final Score: Clemson prevailed 34-31. Result: Lost
B1G Championship (Indianapolis, IN) – Oregon Ducks (-3.5) over Penn St. Nittany Lions – Final Score: Oregon won by eight points, 45-37. Result: WON!
Gary’s “Pick 6” NFL Selections
Atlanta Falcons (+5.5) over Minnesota Vikings – Atlanta was destroyed at Minnesota by a score of 42-21. Result: Lost
Carolina Panthers (+13) over Philadelphia Eagles – As predicted, the large point spread was simply too much to cover. Final Score: Philadelphia 22-16. Result: WON!
Miami Dolphins (-6.5) over New York Jets – Final Score: Miami won in OT 32-26. The darn hook got us again. Result: Lost
Arizona Cardinals (-2.5) over Seattle Seahawks – The Seahawks won 30-18. Result: Lost
Buffalo Bills (-4.5) over Los Angeles Rams – Buffalo had a tough week on defense, losing 44-42, the highest scoring game in the NFL this year. Result: Lost
Los Angeles Chargers (+3.5) over Kansas City Chiefs – The Chiefs won again, but only by two points 19-17. Result: WON!

Gary’s “Pick 6” NFL Selections
New York Football Giants (+16.5) over Baltimore Ravens – Like last week’s huge spread for Philadelphia at Carolina, this is similar for the Giants at home versus the Ravens. The Ravens will undoubtedly win this game, but 16.5 points is a load to cover. PICK: N.Y. Giants
Denver Broncos (-3.5) over Indianapolis Colts – Denver is at home, and the Broncos defense has been surprisingly good, as has rookie QB Bo Nix. HC Sean Payton has his guys playing well. PICK: Denver
Los Angeles Chargers (-3) over Tampa Bay Buccaneers – L.A. is at home
Seattle Seahawks (+2.5) over Green Bay Packers – Remember when Seattle had the amazing home-field advantage entitled the “12th Man”? Gary sees the great people of the Pacific Northwest harkening to the past with a Sunday Night Football performance unlike any other. As a small home ‘dog, the Seahawks (8-5) should win this game straight up over the Pack (9-4). PICK: Seattle
Atlanta Falcons (-4.5) over Las Vegas Raiders – Why are we picking the Falcons after last week’s debacle? Two words…. “the Raiduhs”. PICK: Atlanta
Minnesota Vikings (-7) over Chicago Bears – How can anyone pick the Bears to do anything positive lately? They stink all the way around. PICK: Minnesota

Isn’t it funny how quickly the perceptions of gambling have changed? It used to be such a quiet, back room type of entertainment. Now’s it’s all out in the open, legal in most cases, and accepted. This has all evolved in the last decade or two. Amazing, really.
