Gary “The Gut” Goombah – Week 6, 2025

Week 5 Recap

NCAA Selections (all odds from Saturday’s Chicago Sun-Times)

Co-Game of the Week: Oregon Ducks (+3.5) over Penn St. Nittany Lions – Final Score: Oregon won a great game, 30-24 in 2OT. Result: WON!

Co-Game of the Week: Georgia Bulldogs (-2.5) over Alabama Crimson Tide – Final Score: Alabama beat Georgia, again…. 24-21. Result: Lost

Notre Dame Fighting Irish (-4.5) over Arkansas Razorbacks – This one seemed WAY too easy. Final Score: Notre Dame won 56-13 and so then Arkansas fired their head coach. Result: WON!

USC Trojans (-6.5) over Illinois Fighting Illini – The ILL-INI did it, upsetting the Trojans in a whale of a game. Final Score: Illinois won 34-32. Result: Lost

Cincinnati Bearcats (+4.5) over Kansas Jayhawks – Final Score: Cincinnati won 37-34. Result: WON!

Tennessee Volunteers (-7.5) over Mississippi St. Bulldogs – Final Score: Tennessee won by 7 points, in OT. The hook got Gary. Hopefully you locked in at 6.5 points. Result: Lost

Ohio St. Buckeyes (-8.5) over Washington Huskies – Final Score: Ohio St. won 24-6. Result: WON!

Kentucky Wildcats (+5.5) over South Carolina Gamecocks – Final Score: South Carolina won BIG, 35-13. Result: Lost

Texas A&M Aggies (-6.5) over Auburn Tigers – Final Score: Texas A&M won 16-10. The hook got Gary AGAIN! Hopefully, you locked in at 5.5 points. Ugh. Result: Lost

NFL “Lucky Seven” Selections (all odds from Saturday’s Chicago Sun-Times)

Game of the Week: Baltimore Ravens (-2.5) over Kansas City Chiefs – “The Gut” was SO wrong about this game. Of course, so many integral Ravens players got injured including QB Lamar Jackson and MLB Roquan Smith. Kansas City ain’t dead yet. Final Score: Kansas City 37-20. Result: Lost

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+3.5) over Philadelphia Eagles – Final Score: Philadelphia won by six points, 31-25. Result: Lost

San Francisco 49ers (-3.5) over Jacksonville Jaguars – Final Score: Jacksonville upset the 49ers, 26-21. Result: Lost

Detroit Lions (-9.5) over Cleveland Browns – Final Score: Detroit handled Cleveland, 34-10. Result: WON!

Buffalo Bills (-15.5) over New Orleans Saints – Final Score: Buffalo won by only 12 points, 31-19. Result: Lost

Chicago Bears (+1.5) over Las Vegas Raiders – The Bears won an exciting football game in Vegas, with many Chicago fans in attendance. The blocked FG saved Gary! Final Score: Chicago won 25-24. Result: WON!

Los Angeles Chargers (-6.5) over New York Giants – The Giants upset the Chargers, 21-18. Result: Lost

Gary was so close to having a .500 week overall (8-8), with an excellent college week (6-3) except for the half point hooks that cost him on both Tennessee and Texas A&M. That’s how the ball bounces sometimes. No worries. Ride it out. Keep rolling with Gary and you’ll see the rewards over the long season.

Week 5 Results: 6-10 (37.5%) Overall; (4-5 NCAA, 2-5 NFL)
Season Results: 29-33 (46.8%) Overall; (15-21 NCAA, 14-12 NFL)

Gary’s Week 6 Selections

NCAA Selections (all odds from Friday’s Chicago Sun-Times)

Michigan Wolverines (-16.5) over Wisconsin Badgers – I guess we agree with “The Gut”: Wisconsin just isn’t a very good team right now. PICK: Michigan

Florida St. Seminoles (+4.5) over Miami Hurricanes – FSU is a home ‘dog vs their in-state rivals, the ‘Canes. They’re getting 4.5 points at home! I like this pick by Gary. PICK: Florida St.

Texas Longhorns (-6.5) over Florida Gators – The ‘Horns are ready to go into “The Swamp” and beat the Gators by at least a touchdown as the hot seat gets warmer for HC Billy Napier. PICK: Texas

Texas A&M Aggies (-14.5) over Mississippi St. Bulldogs

Virginia Cavaliers (+6.5) over Louisville Cardinals – We were surprised when we saw this point spread. We actually thought Virginia would be the favorite. PICK: Virginia

Penn St. Nittany Lions (-24.5) over UCLA Bruins – These last two selections are based on going AGAINST teams that just fired their Head Coach. Both UCLA and Oklahoma St. just fired DeShaun Foster and Mike Gundy, respectively. PSU’s Lions should be roaring after their tough home loss to Oregon last week. We expect them to take out their anger on a reeling UCLA squad. PICK: Penn St.

Arizona Wildcats (-20.5) over Oklahoma St. Cowboys – As we wrote above, “The Gut’s” strategy is to pick against teams that just fired their coach. Mike Gundy was the big boss in Stillwater for the last 21 years! The Cowboys are probably falling off their horses with shock. PICK: Arizona

NFL “Lucky Seven” Selections (all odds from Friday’s Chicago Sun-Times)

Baltimore Ravens (+1.5) over Houston Texans – Gary is going back to the well with the Ravens, as this week they are getting points, at home, against the Houston Oilers/Texans. Get it? Seriously though, will Coach John Harbaugh be able to circle the wagons with QB Cooper Rush? Expect a heavy dose of RB Derrick Henry, who hasn’t had a big game since the opener at Buffalo. PICK: Baltimore

Miami Dolphins (-1.5) over Carolina Panthers – We know WR Tyreek Hill is out for the season. Did anyone see that gross torn knee ligament and dislocated knee? Ugh-sauce. The Dolphins actually looked better after Hill’s injury. Could they be a better functioning offense WITHOUT Tyreek? PICK: Miami

Tennessee Titans (+8.5) over Arizona Cardinals

Buffalo Bills (-8.5) over New England Patriots

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+3) over Seattle Seahawks – QB Baker Mayfield struggled last week against the Eagles, throwing a horrible interception in the end zone. “The Gut” expects a bounce-back performance from Baker, and the Bucs will go up to Seattle and get the win (or at least lose by less than 3 points). PICK: Tampa Bay

Denver Broncos (+4.5) over Philadelphia Eagles

Los Angeles Chargers (-2.5) over Washington Redskins/Football Team/Commanders

Good luck and enjoy the football games this weekend!
