Gary “The Gut” Goombah – Week 15, 2025

Gary “The Gut” Goombah – Week 15, 2025

Gary had another successful weekend of gambling in Week 14! Now he’s getting on a roll, finally. Now it’s Conference Championship weekend in college football. There are nine conference championship games spread out over tonight and tomorrow. How about a nine-leg parlay??? I’m down.

Week 14 Recap

NCAA Selections – all odds taken from last Friday’s Chicago Sun-Times

“Lock of the Week” – Indiana Hoosiers (-28.5) over Purdue Boilermakers – Indiana easily covered over their in-state rivals to win the coveted Old Oaken Bucket. Final Score: Indiana 56-3. Result: WON our Lock of the Week. A special thank you to our cousin Conan who guaranteed a huge victory for IU!

Mississippi St. Bulldogs (+7.5) over Ole Miss Rebels – Final Score: Ole Miss covered by 19 points, 38-19. Result: Lost

Arizona Wildcats (-1.5) over Arizona State Sun Devils – Final Score: Arizona handled ASU 23-7. Result: WON!

Michigan Wolverines (+10.5) over Ohio State. Buckeyes – Ohio State won for the first time in five years, 27-9. Result: Lost

Baylor Bears (-2.5) over Houston Cougars – Houston won by seven points, 31-24. Result: Lost

Texas Tech Red Raiders (-23.5) over West Virginia Mountaineers – The Red Raiders hammered the Mountaineers, 49-0. Result: WON!

Oregon Ducks (-6.5) over Washington Huskies – Final Score: Oregon won by 12 points, 26-14. Result: WON!

Gary’s “Lucky Seven” NFL Selections

Philadelphia Eagles (-7) over Chicago Bears – Gary should have listened to us Bears fans. Bears won at Philly 24-15. Result: Lost

Buffalo Bills (-3.5) over Pittsburgh Steelers – Gary was right about the Bills bouncing back. Final Score: Buffalo 26-7. Result: WON!

Cleveland Browns (+5.5) over San Francisco 49ers – Final Score: San Fran won rather convincingly 26-8. Result: Lost

Houston Texans (+4.5) over Indianapolis Colts – Houston not only covered the spread, they won S/U at Indy. Final Score: Houston 20-16. Result: WON!

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-2.5) over Arizona Cardinals – Tampa squeaked by with the hook helping their cause. Final Score: Tampa Bay 20-17. Result: WON!

Denver Broncos (-5.5) over Washington Redskins/Football Team/Commanders – Denver won, but didn’t cover, winning by just one point in OT, 27-26. Result: Lost

New England Patriots (-7.5) over New York Giants on MNF – The Patriots kicked butt, as predicted. Final Score: New England 33-15. Result: WON!

Week 14 Results: 8-6 (57.1%) Overall; (4-3 NCAA, 4-3 NFL, including 1-0 on “Lock of the Week”)
Season Results: 88-100-1 (46.8%) Overall; (46-54 NCAA, 42-46-1 NFL, with 2-0-1 on “Lock of the Week”)

Gary “The Gut” Goombah’s Week 15 Selections

NCAA Selections – all odds taken from Friday’s Chicago Sun-Times

Conference Championship Games – Gary will make a selection on all nine games

Conference USA (CUSA): Jacksonville State Gamecocks (8-4) (+2.5) over Kennesaw State Owls (9-3) – Gary is confused about the point spread in the CUSA title game. Why is Kennesaw favored, he wonders? They just played on November 15, with Jax State winning 35-26. That game was at Jacksonville, Alabama. So is this game! We expect Jax to win again S/U, much less cover this 2.5 point spread favored to Kennesaw. PICK: Jacksonville State

Sun Belt Conference (SBC): James Madison Dukes (11-1) (-23.5) over Troy Trojans (8-4) – James Madison gets to play at home in Harrisonburg, Virginia for this Championship vs Troy. They are favored by a sizable margin, but Gary picks the Dukes to cover. PICK: James Madison

American Athletic Conference (AAC): North Texas Mean Green (11-1) (-2.5) over Tulane Green Wave (10-2) – This is a home game for Tulane at Yulman Stadium. The Mean Green take on the Green Wave…. hmmm. Both teams lost their head coaches recently, yet both will coach in this game apparently before leaving for their new schools. North Texas averages 46.8 ppg! They only lost one game all year, to a super hot South Florida Bulls team on October 10. Gary says PICK: North Texas

Mountain West Conference (MWC): Boise State Broncos (8-4) (-5.5) over UNLV Runnin’ Rebels (10-2) – This is a home game for Boise on the Smurf Turf at Albertsons Stadium. Funny coincidence, the Dutch Lion has a friend named Gene Albertson, who lives in Boise, Idaho and LOVES the Broncos. I know what you’re thinking… he’s related to the people which the stadium is named after… NOPE. Just a coincidence. This is another rematch. The Broncos beat UNLV 56-31 on October 18. Have we (me and Gary) ever picked against Boise State at home? I doubt it. Quick, somebody go do the research. PICK: Boise State

Big 12 Conference: BYU Cougars (11-1) (+12.5) over Texas Tech Red Raiders (11-1) – Back on November 8, Gary picked BYU to cover the spread as an underdog in Lubbock. They didn’t. Gary is going back for seconds! This time the game is in Dallas at Jerry’s big Cowboys Stadium. And this time the spread is bigger! Last time it was 10.5, yet TTech won 29-7. This time it’s 12.5. What will happen? PICK: BYU to cover

Mid-American Conference (MAC): Western Michigan Broncos (8-4) (-1.5) over Miami (Ohio) Redhawks (7-5) – Dutch Lion’s daughter goes to WMU. She’s pumped about her Broncos! (Actually, does she even know they are playing on Saturday? I mean, she’s an artist, so give her a break). We actually went out to Kalamazoo and saw the Broncos play this autumn. They beat Ball State 42-0. Needless to say, I was impressed. Gary said “sure let’s pick ’em”. PICK: Western Michigan

Southeastern Conference (SEC): Georgia Bulldogs (11-1) (-2.5) over Alabama Crimson Tide (10-2) – We’ve lost plenty o’ cash on Georgia over the last few years in betting on them over ‘Bama. The Tide keep keep KEEP KEEP beating the Bulldogs time after time after TIME after TIME. See what we did there? Can you identify the pattern? If so, you’re probably good at SAT tests. Let’s talk about Coach Kirby Smart. He is 1-7 S/U, 3-5 ATS against ‘Bama since he became Bulldogs head coach in 2016. His overall record is 116-20 S/U. This means he is 115-13 vs every school other than the University of Alabama. If he ever gets over the Crimson Tide hex, he’s gonna be the greatest coach in the world! He’s due. Georgia is due, as they’ve lost 10 of their last 11 vs the damn Tide. Earlier this year, Gary picked Georgia (-2.5) on 9/27 in a home game at Sanford Stadium. ‘Bama won 24-21. This time, UGA will be victorious. PICK: Georgia

Big Ten Conference (B1G): Indiana Hoosiers (12-0) (+4) over Ohio State Buckeyes (12-0) – The top two teams in the nation square off in Indianapolis for the B1G Championship. Not only is Gary picking Indiana to beat the spread in this one, he’s picking IU to win S/U! We think this is where Buckeyes QB Julian Sayin finally hits the skids in a tough matchup. He’s had a great “rookie” year as OSU’s starter, but honestly he hasn’t had a ton of pressure or had to face tough defenses yet. The opener vs Texas was tough, and OSU only put up 14 points. Last week at Michigan was difficult, but that was not a vintage Wolverines defense either. Indiana’s defense is underrated. Watch out! PICK: Indiana

Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC): Virginia Cavaliers (10-2) (-3.5) over Duke Blue Devils (7-5) – This game seems like a mismatch… again. Back on November 15, Virginia went into Durham and beat Duke 34-17. Now the rematch is at a neutral site in Charlotte, North Carolina. PICK: Virginia

Gary’s “Lucky Seven” NFL Selections

Buffalo Bills (-5.5) over Cincinnati Bengals

Houston Texans (+3.5) over Kansas City Chiefs – We see another upset because of the fantastically hot Texans defense. PICK: Houston

Jacksonville Jaguars (+1.5) over Indianapolis Colts – Colts QB Daniel Jones has a broken fibula and he’s trying to play through it. He could barely move last week. It was sad. Plus, the Colts have lost ten straight games in Jacksonville. Wowsers! Let’s make it 11 straight. PICK: Jacksonville

Los Angeles Rams (-8.5) over Arizona Cardinals

Miami Dolphins (-3) over New York Jets – Miami has won four of their last five games. PICK: Miami

Denver Broncos (-7.5) over Las Vegas Raiders – The Broncos are good. The Raiders are not. PICK: Denver

Chicago Bears (+6.5) over Green Bay Packers – Gary wishes this line was 7.5, but it’s not. Deal with it “Gut”. PICK: Chicago to cover but not necessarily to win S/U.

Gary is on a heater, with back-to-back-to-back winning weekends (7-6-1, 9-5, and 8-6). Can he make it a fourth week in a row?
