Gary “The Gut” Goombah – Week 10, 2025
Week 9 didn’t go well. We’ve been saying it all season…. there’s something in the betting water this year. We (Gary) keep losing, often at the last minute, by a hook, or something similarly demoralizing. Gary is cooked. But there’s always reason to keep going. And as my cousin Conan says, to paraphrase: “Gary is very informational, because I know who to pick…. the OPPOSITE teams that Gary selects”. So there’s that.
Week 9 Recap
NCAA Selections – all odds taken from Saturday’s Chicago Sun-Times
Nebraska Cornhuskers (-7.5) over Northwestern Wildcats – Nebraska won by 7 points, 28-21. The hook got us. Booooo! Result: Lost
SMU Mustangs (-3.5) over Wake Forest Demon Deacons – Final Score: Wake Forest won 13-12. Result: Lost
Kansas State Wildcats (+3.5) over Kansas Jayhawks – Final Score: Kansas State beat their in-state rivals 42-17. Result: WON!
Minnesota Golden Gophers (+8.5) over Iowa Hawkeyes – Final Score: Iowa destroyed Minny by 38 points, 41-3. Result: Lost
Texas Longhorns (-7.5) over Mississippi St. Bulldogs – Final Score: Texas pulled it out in Overtime by 7 points, 45-38. Yeah, I know, the hook got us again. Result: Lost
Stanford Cardinal (+29.5) over Miami Hurricanes – 29.5 points was a lot, and seemingly an easy victory for Gary. At halftime, the score was tied at 7. Then Miami took over, scoring 28 straight points. Oh, that’s fine, you were thinking. But the ‘Canes had to tack on a late score with 26 seconds left to cover by a final score of 42-7 (35 point victory). Dude, you just know HC Mario Cristobal was trying to cover there. Now that’s a “Bad Beat”. A “real man” coach would have taken a knee with 26 seconds left. As you can tell, we’re not happy. Result: Lost
LOCK OF THE WEEK : LSU Tigers (+2.5) over Texas A&M Aggies – Gary “The Gut’s” Lock of the Week failed miserably, as LSU was stunned on their home field. The result (A&M won 49-25) was so disappointing that HC Brian Kelly was fired on Sunday afternoon. Result: Lost

San Francisco 49ers (+2.5) over Houston Texans – Final Score: Texans won 26-15. Result: Lost
Buffalo Bills (-7.5) over Carolina Panthers – Final Score: Buffalo won 40-9. Result: WON!
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-4.5) over New Orleans Saints – Final Score: Tampa Bay won 23-3. Result: WON!
Tennessee Titans (+14.5) over Indianapolis Colts – Final Score: Indianapolis covered by 24 points, winning 38-14. Result: Lost
Dallas Cowboys (+3.5) over Denver Broncos – Denver defended their home field, winning 44-24. Result: Lost
Pittsburgh Steelers (+3) over Green Bay Packers – We had stats galore for Pitt to win this bet. Of course we did. Green Bay won by ten points, 35-25. Result: Lost
Washington Commanders (+11.5) over Kansas City Chiefs – We had even more stats telling you why D.C. would cover the large point spread. Of course we did. Kansas City won easy, 28-7. Result: Lost

Cincinnati Bearcats (+10.5) over Utah Utes – Cincinnati is really underrated. The Bearcats only loss was in the opener to Nebraska by a field goal on a neutral field in Kansas City. PICK: Cincinnati
Nebraska Cornhuskers (+6.5) over USC Trojans – Dutch Lion and family will be in attendance for the “Black Out” game in Memorial Stadium. SC is potent on offense. However, Neb’s Blackshirts are strong on defense. Trojans HC Lincoln Riley is 1-7 ATS all-time when crossing two time zones. Pacific Coast time and Central time are two hours apart. DING DING DING!
