All week, Gary has been enjoying the exquisite possessions he bought from last week’s winnings. The parlor is now more lavish with each and every week. “The Gut” went a cool 3-1 last week which was quote/unquote “most satisfying”, he reported. With another big week, Mr. Goombah informed me that he is looking into some garish wheels, a new Corvette Stringray. I don’t know about you, but I’ll be cheering for Gary to win big so he can give me a ride to see the beautiful Fall colors.
- Week 1 : 3-0-1
- Week 2 : 1-3
- Week 3 : 3-1
- Season Totals : 7-4-1
As per usual, all lines are taken from Friday’s Chicago Tribune. And remember what they say, “Bet with your heart, not your brain”. Just kidding. Another joke Gary told me while we were writing this piece,
Question: “What is an Eskimo’s favorite kind of carpeting to install in their igloo?”…………..
Answer: “Berber”.
Wow, that was……..a dad joke. I didn’t know Gary had kids!
Week 4 NCAA Football Selections
Nebraska Cornhuskers (-5.5) over Illinois Fighting Illini
- I know what you’re thinking. You’re biased with this pick! Well, I’m not sure what that means here. I’m an Illini alumni but a gigantic ‘Huskers fan. I cheer for both teams. Besides, this isn’t me picking this game, it’s Gary “The Gut” for gosh sakes! We know Nebraska has been struggling, but Illinois just plain stinks! “The Gut” just ‘lovies’ this pick. The Huskers may even roll in this game, much less cover 5.5 measly points. This one almost seems too easy. Bottom line, take Nebraska to cover the points. They shall win by minimum 14 points, maybe 20 or more. This is a Friday night special on FoxSports1.
Georgia Bulldogs (-7.5) over Tennessee Volunteers
- I know Neyland Stadium is intimidating for visitors. I respect the stadium and their fans. I was just there this Summer on a vacation. Beautiful. Incredible atmosphere on the shores of the Tennessee River! However, “The Gut” just thinks Georgia is a dominant team and Tennessee is not very good. Some would say “lackluster”. Expect Georgia to easily stroll into Tennessee and take down the Vols. Georgia wins by at least 14.

Texas Tech Red Raiders (+9.5) over Oklahoma St. Cowboys
- Home underdogs are fun to pick and TTech looks like a winner this week ATS. If “The Gut” had to predict a final score here, he may guess something like Oklahoma St. winning 42-35 or 45-38. We do think the Cowboys are the better team but we also think the Red Raiders are much improved over last year’s 5-7 record. 9.5 points is a large margin for a 3-1 team coming off a loss at a 3-0 team who is feeling momentum after a solid win at Houston. You might recall that Gary picked Texas Tech last week as a road dog at Houston and they not only won ATS but they won S/U. Now they’re back in the friendly confines in Lubbock, TX. Bottom line, “The Gut” says use those 9.5 points. Ride the hot hand and pick Texas Tech again!
Game of the Week
Virginia Tech Hokies (+7.5) over Clemson Tigers
- It is hard to pick against Clemson. They’ve been dominant for the most part through their opening four games. Two weeks ago “The Gut” picked Louisville to upset the Tigers. Bad move. However, this week’s game is a much bigger challenge for Clemson. They have to play in VTech’s Lane Stadium. They will hear Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” and get scared. Most of all, their young inexperienced QB Kelly Bryant will wilt under the intense pressure provided by not only the ‘out-of-their-mind’ crowd but also the Hokies vaunted defense led by DC Bud Foster. Plus, under second year HC Justin Fuente (14-4 in his first 18 games), their offense is now more explosive than ever, led by redshirt freshman phenom Joshua Jackson. Expect a close game but expect Virginia Tech to beat this 7.5 point spread and possibly/probably even come out on top straight up. “The Gut” advises to bet the home dog! Bet VTech!
That’s it for Week 4. Lay your money down and get workin’ on your own lavish parlor and your own custom Corvette Stingray! Why let Gary “The Gut” Goombah have all the fun? Good luck!
