Gary “The Gut” Goombah was ecstatic with his Week 8 performance, going 3-1. Therefore, he returned from hiding in that remote cave. Now he’s back and he’s planning an elegant bash to “pay it forward”. A party for us all, free of charge (the fine print lists only a $2.50 surcharge, which is nice). We all need a dose of his lavish parlor and immaculate grounds. Let’s recap why Gary is back in the high life again.
Week 8 NCAA Selections Recap:
Nebraska Cornhuskers (+5) over Purdue Boilermakers – This young team is growing and we expect a much better effort on Saturday night. PICK NEBRASKA with a solid straight up win! RESULT: Nebraska 25 Purdue 24……….STRAIGHT UP WIN as a Road Dog!
Washington Huskies (-17.5) over UCLA – Watch for Jake Browning and his Huskies teammates to roll up the score on the Bruins as they take out their frustrations from their loss at ASU. PICK WASHINGTON! RESULT: Washington 44 UCLA 23……….21 point win covers for “The Gut”. WIN!
Georgia Bulldogs (-13.5) over Florida – OK, so what’s the “Gut” thinking on this one? Well, he’s thinking Georgia is just plain better than Florida, by a lot. UGA is 7-0 and awesome. Florida is 3-3 and stinky. They’ve lost two in a row, to Texas A&M and LSU. Can the Bulldogs cover by two touchdowns? Yes they can. PICK GEORGIA! RESULT: Georgia 42 Florida 7………35 point demolition of Florida makes Gary happy. This is why you should never doubt “The Gut”. HUGE WIN!
TCU Horned Frogs (-5.5) over Iowa St. Cyclones – Iowa St. is playing some good ball. They’re ranked for the first time since 2005. Meanwhile, TCU is 7-0 and ranked 4th in the nation. They won’t overlook this ISU team, even though the game is at Ames, Iowa. Five and a half points should be easy for this high-powered TCU offense to cover. Gary told me something about “overcoming adversity and being motivated by revenge” but it was all a bit hazy as the “Dutch Lion” was a bit foggy and groggy himself, you know, from the bag over the head and the strange car ride and the pills. You know, just another day in paradise. Anyway, PICK TCU to cover 5.5 measly points. RESULT: Iowa St. 14 TCU 7. SURPRISING straight up LOSS!
- Week 1 : 3-0-1
- Week 2 : 1-3
- Week 3 : 3-1
- Week 4 : 3-1
- Week 5 : 0-4
- Week 6 : 1-3-1
- Week 7 : 1-4
- Week 8 : 3-1
- Season Totals: 15-17-2
Week 9 NCAA Selections:
UPSET SPECIAL: Indiana Hoosiers (+13.5) over Wisconsin Badgers – Wisky has NOT looked very good lately. They barely squeaked by Illinois 24-10. The Illini are atrocious. Two weeks prior to that, they were almost upset by Purdue at home 17-9. Maybe Wisconsin is just bored. I mean, they are undefeated. They’re ranked 10th in ESPN’s FPI. They haven’t been challenged by many good teams yet. In fact, their highest FPI ranked opponent was Northwestern who is 37th. They’ve only played one team that is over .500, Northwestern. Wisky was close in that victory too, winning just 33-24 after a late Wildcats rally. Wisconsin also has several injuries to deal with. Freshman phenom RB Jonathan Taylor is questionable with a leg injury. Even if he plays Gary likes the 13.5 points that the Hoosiers (FPI rank: 48th) are getting at home in Bloomington, Indiana. And that spread has been going up all week. Early on it was as low as 10 points and has steadily risen. “The Gut” was ready to lock in at 10.5 points, then 12.5. Now it’s at 13.5 points!!!! WR Jazz Peavy, FB Austin Ramesh, DE Isaiahh Lowdermilk are all out. Besides Taylor, there are several others that are questionable including WR Quintez Cephus and S D’Cota Dixon. Meanwhile, sophomore QB Alex Hornibrook looks shaky. He hasn’t been playing very consistently this year. It all adds up to “The Gut” taking Indiana ATS for sure. If Taylor doesn’t play, “The Gut” likes Indiana S/U. PICK INDIANA! Big Money!
Notre Dame Fighting Irish (-14) over Wake Forest Demon Deacons – Notre Dame (7-1) has been absolutely rolling since their Week 2 loss to Georgia by one point. Wake Forest (5-3) won by 10 points last week over Louisville behind a strong performance from QB John Wolford and WR Greg Dortch. They connected 4 times for scores as Wolford threw 5 total TD’s. Here’s the problem. Dortch is hurt and out for the season with an abdominal injury. Now starting RB Cade Carney is out too. Expect Wolford to be lost without his main guys. “The Gut” just loves information. The Irish D should dominate. We are ND! PICK NOTRE DAME.
LSU Tigers (+21) over Alabama Crimson Tide – This is a risky pick by Gary if you ask me. ‘Bama rolls up everybody. Or do they? LSU is one of the few teams that can hang with the Crimson Tide. Last year ‘Bama prevailed 10-0, the year before that 30-16. In 2014 it was Bama by 7 in OT. In ’13 it was Bama by 21. In ’12 it was ‘Bama by 4. Gary points out that LSU hasn’t beaten Alabama in 6 straight games since the 2011 regular season game. However, the average margin of victory by ‘Bama is only 12.8 points. Gary’s “Gut” feeling is LSU hangs with the Tide and loses straight up but by less than 3 touchdowns. PICK LSU.
California Bears (-7) over Oregon St. Beavers – Cal (4-5) is a much better team than Oregon St. (1-7). The Beavers have lost 6 straight games. This game is at Cal-Berkeley. Why are they only favored by 7 points? Gary wants to know. “Actually, I don’t care that much. I just care about taking advantage of this small Vegas line. PICK CAL” – Gary “The Gut” Goombah’s direct quote
So there you have it. If Gary’s four picks go his way, he will get back over the gambler’s Mendoza line, if you will. Nonetheless, the “Gut” is hosting a big bash this weekend where you can partake libations in his lavish parlor after touring his immaculate grounds during the beautiful Autumn afternoon.
