Gary “The Gut” Goombah : Week 11

After living the high life this past week by flying all over the globe in his private jet, Gary “The Gut” Goombah got back to work today. He looked at the games and the point spreads and WO is he excited. As Ric Flair would say, “WOOOOOOOO!”

There is so much cash to be won this week it’s ridiculous! In fact, there is so much sweet action that Gary will be making more than the usual 4 or 5 selections. Instead, he’ll be making a high number of low risk, huge cash potential picks.

But first, let’s recap what happened in Week 10:

Week 10 NCAA Selections:

Washington Logo Friday Night Special! Washington Huskies (-6) over Stanford Cardinal – “The Gut” says UW’s defense is TOO GOOD for a young guy to solve. PICK WASHINGTON!

RESULT: Stanford won 30-22. Washington played like garbage and lost by 8. Tough start to the weekend. LOSS!

Indiana Logo Indiana Hoosiers (-7.5) over Illinois Fighting Illini – PICK INDIANA!

RESULT: “The Gut” picked against my alma-mater and he told me simply that it was because my alma-mater stinks. He was right. Indiana won by 10 points, 24-14. WIN!

West Virginia Logo West Virginia Mountaineers (+2.5) over Kansas St. Wildcats – We’re all a little surprised by this point spread. Gary likes this underdog. PICK WEST VIRGINIA!

RESULT: Sure enough, Gary was absolutely right. WVU won straight up by 5 points, 28-23. GREAT WIN!

Iowa Logo UPSET SPECIAL: Iowa Hawkeyes (+11.5) over Wisconsin Badgers – Gary “The Gut” is determined to pick against Wisconsin (9-0) because each and every week he watches their tape and can’t quite understand how a soft-tossing lefty QB who looks shakier by the week keeps getting it done. Nonetheless, Gary thinks that 11.5 points is absurd. PICK IOWA ATS and maybe even S/U!

RESULT: Gary was wrong about Wisconsin…..again. The Badgers played phenomenal defense and dominated this game. Wisconsin won by 24 points, 38-14. BIG LOSS!

So Gary went 2-2 last week and hasn’t made much progress recently.

Season Record

  • Week 1 : 3-0-1
  • Week 2 : 1-3
  • Week 3 : 3-1
  • Week 4 : 3-1
  • Week 5 : 0-4
  • Week 6 : 1-3-1
  • Week 7 : 1-4
  • Week 8 : 3-1
  • Week 9 : 2-2
  • Week 10 : 2-2
  • Season Totals: 19-21-2

Week 11 NCAA Selections:

  • Using the point spreads in Friday’s Chicago Tribune, Gary has 7 picks this week. Here are Gary’s Lucky 7:

Oklahoma St. Logo Oklahoma St. Cowboys (-20) over Kansas St. Wildcats – The Cowboys (8-2) are at home. The Wildcats (5-5) aren’t that good. Okie State scores a ton. PICK OKLAHOMA ST.!

Oklahoma Logo Oklahoma Sooners (-37) over Kansas Jayhawks – Oklahoma (9-1) is awesome. They are now ranked 4th in the CFP Playoff Rankings. “The Gut” knows this is a big spread but he also knows that Kansas (1-9) is a basketball school and always will be. They absolutely stink. Meanwhile, Baker Bayfield will try to roll it up on Kansas, you know, to impress the voters for the rankings and the “eye test” factor. PICK OKLAHOMA BIG!

UCF logo UCF Knights (-14) over Temple Owls – UCF (9-0) is now ranked 15th. Temple (5-5) is mediocre at best. The only worry “The Gut” indicated is the pressure on UCF to remain undefeated. Nonetheless, two touchdowns isn’t too much. PICK UCF!

Virginia Logo Virginia Cavaliers (+19) over Miami Hurricanes – The ‘Canes (9-0) looked so wonderful last week that this pick seems unreasonable. But that’s exactly the problem. Miami won’t be all jacked up like they were against Notre Dame. How will Miami handle the success and the #3 ranking? It will be a sleepy 11 AM kickoff in Miami. “The Gut” won’t go so far as to call an upset, but he’s thinking Virginia (6-4) can cover those 19 large points. PICK VIRGINIA!

Boise St. logo Boise St. Broncos (-17.5) over Air Force Falcons – Boise St. (8-2) is rolling! The Broncos have won 6 in a row. Their offense is coming back to life, scoring at least 40 points three weeks in a row. Meanwhile, Air Force (4-6) is scuffling, losing two in a row. The only hesitation for “The Gut” here is that Air Force has somehow beaten Boise three years in a row, surprisingly. No matter, Boise is at home on the blue turf and Gary expects them to take out 3 years of frustration. PICK BOISE…….BIG!

Texas Tech Logo2 Texas Tech Red Raiders (+6.5) over TCU Horned Frogs – TCU (8-2) has had a great season, up until last week when they lost big to Oklahoma 38-20. Now there’s late breaking news that TCU’s starting QB Kenny Hill is OUT. Texas Tech (5-5) usually puts up a fight, especially in Lubbock. “The Gut” thinks if you can lock in at close to 6.5 points, go ahead and PICK TEXAS TECH.

Michigan Logo2 UPSET SPECIAL OF THE WEEK: Michigan Wolverines (+7) over Wisconsin Badgers – Gary “The Gut” clearly doesn’t like Wisconsin (10-0). He’s gonna keep picking against them until they lose. Michigan (8-2) is no slouch. In fact, the Wolverines have as good a chance as anybody to give Wisconsin their 1st loss due to an extremely weak schedule. The Badgers have only beaten 3 teams with winning records out of their 10 wins (Northwestern 7-3, Iowa 6-4, and FAU 7-3). Hornibrook proved once again how awful he was last week, throwing 3 interceptions, 2 of which were returned for TD’s. Horni has thrown 12 INTs on the season, including at least one in 7 straight games! It’s laughable actually. He’s starting to remind us of 1992 Alabama’s Jay Barker or the 2000 Baltimore Ravens’ Trent Dilfer. On the season Horni has thrown 12 INTs for a 10-0 team. However, in his defense he has thrown 17 TD passes. Of course, 6 of those were to WR Quintez Cephus who is now out for the season. Gary “The Gut” feels strongly about this pick. Michigan will cover the spread and will probably win the game straight up. Pick Michigan……..BIG!

That’s it for Week 11. If you take “The Gut’s” advice, look for big winnings this week ahead of Black Friday. Then use your cash for deep savings on the biggest shopping day of the year. You know what Gary’s gonna do with his winnings? You guessed it……He’s gonna add more lavish stylings to his mansion.

However, Mr. Goombah prefers to shop small at locally owned businesses so he’ll be saving for National Small Business Saturday which is on Saturday, November 25 this year. Thanks and good luck to all you gamblers.

PS: If you just got out of your GA (“Gamblers Anonymous”) meetings, then pay no attention to the previous 985 words.
