Gary “The Gut” Goombah : Week 9
The roll continues…..
Gary “The Gut” Goombah everybody! This guy is basking in his wealth lately. He even admitted to me this week on our teleconference that he is having a hard time backing away from buying every single item he wants. And Gary wants everything he sees in “Robb Report Magazine”. If you’ve never seen “Robb Report”, it’s a pub based on the rich and famous and the toys they have. Go buy yourself a copy. It’s yachts, watches, sports cars, private jets, private limos with chauffeurs….. you know, the kinda stuff Gary purchases.

Anyway, back to gambling and football. Last week Gary wanted a “Guest Picker” to help with our Selections. “Dutch Lion’s” good friend Dave Nash provided a couple picks including his Lock of the Week. Sure enough, Dave provided some sweet action! His Lock of the Week was not only an ATS winner but a free S/U victory as well. Check it out:
Last week’s Week 8 NCAA Selections (All selections are ATS. Point spreads are from Friday’s Chicago Tribune.)
DAVE NASH’S WEEK 8 GUEST PICKER SPECIALS!
Colorado St. Rams (+23.5) over Boise St. Broncos – Dave is starting it off with a Friday Night Special! To quote Dave, “Boise State for some reason has not been playing up to its potential. I love Colorado State and the +23.5 tonight”. Well done Mr. Nash! Even though we love the Broncos and cheer for them, we agree. Boise has NOT been playing up to its potential. PICK: Colorado St………..FINAL SCORE: Boise St. 56 Colorado St. 28….. A 28 point victory for Boise = LOSS
DAVE’S LOCK OF THE WEEK : Purdue Boilermakers (+12) over Ohio St. Buckeyes – When Dave threw this one at me, my eyes sparkled immediately. This was my LOCK OF THE WEEK too! Dave said, “Lock of the week. Purdue to cover. I love dogs at home and Purdue has been able to hang.” This point spread was 13 and the hook for most of the week but today the spread changed to 12. Uh oh, they’re on to us. Nonetheless, PICK: Purdue!……….FINAL SCORE: Purdue 49 Ohio St. 20……Not only a cover on the 12 points but a 29 point upset domination over the #2 team in America = GIGANTIC WIN!
Here’s 3 more from Gary that might arouse the senses:
Oklahoma Sooners (-8) over TCU Horned Frogs – OU has had a week to sit around and think about the debacle against Texas. Now they play a different rival from the same state, Texas Christian University from Fort Worth, TX. Oklahoma is awesome. Can their offense be stopped? Not really. Even though Texas beat them they gave up 45 points. The Frogs can’t score with OU. Therefore, they can’t keep up. 8 points is easy. PICK: Oklahoma……FINAL SCORE: Oklahoma 52 TCU 27…….A 25 point drubbing by OU = HUGE WIN!
Iowa Hawkeyes (-9.5) over Maryland Terrapins – For the second straight week we’re picking against the Terps. Last week they defied us against Rutgers. This week they travel west to Iowa City, IA. The Hawks dominate at home in Kinnick. Maryland isn’t even that good. Rutgers completed 2 passes last week and threw 5 interceptions, yet the Terps only won by 27 points. They should’ve won by 40 or 50 with those stats. Think about it. Will Iowa throw 5 INT’s and complete only 2 passes? No. PICK: Iowa……..FINAL SCORE: Iowa 23 Maryland 0……..A 23 point shutout makes us happy to report a big WIN!
LSU Tigers (-6.5) over Mississippi St. Bulldogs – LSU is on a roll! At home again in Death Valley and favored by only 6.5 points? What are we missing? As Coach Orgeron says in that gravelly voice…..”GEAUX TIGERS”. PICK: LSU…….FINAL SCORE: LSU 19 Mississippi St. 3………A 16 point victory = YET ANOTHER LARGE VICTORY!
Season Totals:
- Week 1 : 1-4
- Week 2 : 2-3
- Week 3 : 2-3
- Week 4 : 1-4
- Week 5 : 4-2
- Week 6 : 4-1
- Week 7 : 2-3
- Week 8 : 4-1
- TOTALS: 20-21
That’s a 14-7 record over the last 4 weeks! Let’s finish off October in the black with a Halloween Trick & Treat. Is a perfect week on the horizon? Is the moon full? Do Dutch yachts speed by quickly while sailing with extreme class and style?
Week 9 NCAA Selections (All selections are ATS. Point spreads are from Friday’s Chicago Tribune.)
Syracuse Orangemen (+1.5) over N.C. State Wolfpack – Gary’s got a “Gut” feeling on the ‘Cuse. The Orange can score with anyone. PICK: Syracuse
Texas A&M Aggies (+2) over Mississippi St. Bulldogs – The Aggies should win this one S/U. Why are they underdogs? Well, they’re on the road in the SEC. Plus, people are used to the old A&M. However, Jimbo is changing the culture in College Station very quickly. A&M is 5-2, with their only 2 losses to ‘Bama and Clemson. Not bad. The Bulldogs are 4-3 and trying to rebound from a physical game in Baton Rouge. PICK: Texas A&M
Boise St. Broncos (-9) over Air Force Falcons – Last week Dave Nash picked against Boise. Now that Gary is back in charge, he’s defying Nasher and picking one of his fave historic teams to bet on…..Boise! The Broncs rolled last week and should dominate another opponent as they travel to Colorado Springs to take on Air Force. PICK: Boise St.
Wisconsin Badgers (-4.5) over Northwestern Wildcats – I hate both of these teams but Gary doesn’t care who I like. It’s always a spot of contention during our weekly teleconferences. He throws me his picks and then I grumble and groan. He then asks, “What’s your deal Dutch?” in an exact Pete Carroll to Jim Harbaugh kind of way. I explain my hatred for so-and-so team and then he replies, “Too bad kid”. So anyway, back to this B1G West battle. Wisconsin was favored by as many as 9 points earlier in the week until information was released that starting QB Alex Hornibrook is going through the concussion protocol this week and may not suit up for Saturday’s tilt. Here’s the funny thing: “Dutch Lion” and Gary agree that Hornibrook sucks! Wisky may in fact benefit from backup QB Jack Coan getting the call and the ball against the “Mildcats”. PICK: Wisconsin
TCU Horned Frogs (-13.5) over Kansas Jayhawks – Like Wisconsin above, TCU will not have their starting QB as Shawn Robinson is out for the season with a shoulder injury. Who cares? Michael Collins is replacing him and he’s pretty good. Maybe he’ll even be better than Robinson. Who knows? One thing we know……. TCU will defeat Kansas soundly. PICK: TCU
It’s rainin’ money! So remember to go out and throw legal tender at these Week 9 Selections. Go big or go home. Good luck and You’re Welcome!

One pick made me double-take, When Wisconsin is involved in a game you pick, you usually pick against UW, which makes me think you unwisely go against the Gut. Let’s pull out your records and let me know how many times Wisky was the pick when involved in a play

Thanks for the comments Jay. I believe this is the first time Gary has picked the Badgers. I’m not sure but I could gather some data for the record. Anyway, personally I hate Wisconsin and Northwestern. Flip a coin! Both teams are overrated and going nowhere. We have one Stevenson player on each team so I feel for them but Gary doesn’t care about that of course.
When is Coach Fitzgerald gonna hang up his purple cleats? They’ve maxed out there. They always have the same old bunch of grind it out BS. Beating Rutgers by 3? C’mon man. As for your Coach Chryst, I’m really getting tired of him too. Why does he get so cute with his weird play calling? The constant FB stuff when they have a Heisman Trophy candidate at Tailback is ridiculous and weird. He consistently uses Taylor as a decoy. It’s getting tiresome. Last week 4 guys scored rushing TD’s against Illinois. Taylor had zero. He never even gets chances in the redzone anymore. Strange. As for Hornibrook, have you ever seen a worse QB? This guy is atrocious. Jack Coan is good. I see UW improving with him.
