Gary “The Gut” is Back!
Welcome back to football season! Last we saw Gary “The Gut” Goombah, he was riding off into the sunset with his bag of winnings. His pockets were so heavy last year that he figured he’d take a long offseason break to recharge his batteries. Therefore, he flew out to his private island in the Indian Ocean, only returning this week to refill his coffers.

Gary “The Gut” Goombah’s Week 1 Selections
- Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+15.5) over Ohio State Buckeyes – As much as we love the Buckeyes this year, this is a huge point spread. “The Gut” thinks the Irish will keep it closer than the experts think. PICK: Notre Dame
- Georgia Bulldogs (-17) over Oregon Ducks – We don’t see the Bulldogs starting off the defense of their National Championship with an understated effort against a PAC-12 team. Oregon has a new Head Coach in Dan Lanning, who was previously UGA’s DC. The Ducks previous coach was Mario Cristobal who left for his alma mater Miami. PICK: Georgia
- Boise State Broncos (+3.5) over Oregon St. Beavers – I love these non-conference matchups with big-time regional interest. This game means a ton to those in Oregon and Idaho. “The Gut” thinks the 7-5 Broncos will make a resurgence in ’22. They have 17 returning starters! It all starts with a victory on the road in Corvallis. PICK: Boise State
- Florida Gators (+2) over Utah Utes – There’s no way we can pick against the Gators in their home opener in the Swamp. I’m sure they’ve been looking forward to this opener as motivation the entire offseason. The difference will be Anthony Richardson’s playmaking ability. PICK: Florida
- Houston Cougars (-6) at UTSA Roadrunners – Cougars QB Clayton Tune will throw to WR Tank Dell early and often in the Alamodome. PICK: Houston

Reid, I suppose you were sweating out the first half…but the Huskers won the 4th quarter and I am sure you were happy to eventually get that W. Hope you had a great time.

Thanks Bruce. We had a fantastic time as always! I take my son to a Nebraska game every year, either in Lincoln or to a different Big Ten stadium. He’s in the high school band and is really getting interested in possibly playing in a college marching band. So we’ll see what happens. We were blessed with beautiful weather and a safe drive. We drove over 1100 miles round trip. Thanks!
