Gary “The Gut” Goombah is finally back from his offseason spent in the South Pacific. He spent his winnings from last season’s success to purchase a remote island all for himself. In fact, he had so much tranquility down there that he’s late in returning for another season of gridiron gambling. Oh the travel times from half-way around the world….. Good Lord!

To recap last season’s selections, Gary “The Gut” Goombah went 48-41-4 including his National Championship pick of Georgia (+3.5) which just squeaked by in victory even though Georgia was in Heartbreak City after their 26-23 OT loss.

2018 Week 1 NCAA Selections (All picks are “Against The Spread” (ATS). As usual, all point spreads are from the most recent Chicago Tribune)

Northern Illinois (+10) over Iowa – NIU loves these early season road games in Big Ten stadiums. Remember last year when they went into Lincoln and shocked the ‘Huskers? Watch out for DE/OLB #15 Sutton Smith. PICK: Iowa

Louisville (+24) over Alabama – Don’t get me wrong, I’m picking ‘Bama to win this game. However, 24 points is too much to cover. PICK: Louisville

West Virginia (-9.5) over Tennessee – WVU is gonna roll over the Vols. The Mountaineers should easily cover this 9.5 point spread. PICK: West Virginia

Florida St. (-7.5) over Virginia Tech – FSU is really good. They’re looking for redemption after a lousy ’17. They’re at home in Doak Campbell Stadium. PICK: Florida St.

PICK OF THE WEEK: Michigan (+1.5) over Notre Dame – As you know if you read “Dutch Lion’s College Football Spectacular”, we’re big on Michigan. Not only big, we’re HUGE on Michigan. Massive even. Even though we personally love ND, we just think Michigan is too good. They will beat the Irish in South Bend to start their Championship quest. PICK: Michigan
