Gary “The Gut” Goombah : Week 4

Gary “The Gut” Goombah : Week 4

Boom! “It’s Gary here!” We’re all pumped up for Week 4! Last week was yet another underwhelming group of selections, but as we say……….that’s life. Strikes & Gutters, dude. Don’t let it bring you down. We’ve got a new week of gambling action and we feel fantastic about our picks.

Before we get to this week’s big money selections, let’s recap Week 3.

Week 3 NCAA Selections (All selections are ATS. Point spreads are from Friday’s Chicago Tribune.)

LSU Logo LSU Tigers (+10) over Auburn Tigers – LSU is getting double digits in what should be a hard-fought SEC grudge match. I’ll take the underdog LSU Tigers even though they’re on the road at Jordan-Hare Stadium. PICK: LSU. FINAL SCORE: LSU 22 Auburn 21…….HUGE WIN!

Baylor LogoBaylor Bears (-6.5) over Duke Blue Devils – Duke’s QB Daniel Jones is hurt. Baylor is at home in Waco, TX. PICK: Baylor. FINAL SCORE: Duke 40 Baylor 27…….Big LOSS.

Washington Logo Washington Huskies (-4.5) over Utah Utes – After the loss in the opener to Auburn, Washington got back on track last week. UW is too good for Utah. Expect a victory by more than 6 points for the Huskies at Utah. PICK: Washington. FINAL SCORE: Washington 21 Utah 7……Good WIN!

Oklahoma Logo Oklahoma Sooners (-18) over Iowa St. Cyclones – The Sooners are fantastic. The Cyclones have problems. This game is in Ames, IA but that’s about the only thing going for Iowa St. this week. PICK: Oklahoma. FINAL SCORE: Oklahoma 37 Iowa St. 27. LOSS.

Boise St. logo Game of the Week : Boise St. Broncos (+2.5) over Oklahoma St. Cowboys – Boise St. is awesome. They have a veteran squad that could possibly go undefeated this year. This is their biggest non-conference game and they’re getting points! PICK: Boise St. FINAL SCORE: Oklahoma St. 44 Boise St. 21…….Gigantic LOSS.

Season Totals:

  • Week 1 : 1-4
  • Week 2 : 2-3
  • Week 3 : 2-3
  • TOTALS: 5-10

Week 4 NCAA Selections (All selections are ATS. Point spreads are from Thursday’s Chicago Tribune.)

Iowa St. logo Iowa St. Cyclones (-18.5) over Akron Zips – Last week I picked against Iowa St. and lost. This week I’m switching sides. I’ll take the Cyclones despite the big 18.5 points. I was impressed by QB Zeb Noland and WR Hakeem “The Dream” Butler along with the rest of Iowa St.’s squad. They should easily handle the Zips on Saturday. PICK: Iowa St.

West Virginia Logo West Virginia Mountaineers (-16) over Kansas St. Wildcats – The Mountaineers are itching to get out on the field after last week’s cancellation because of Hurricane Florence. They’re well rested and ready to pounce on the Wildcats. 16 points? No sweat when you have a passing game as dominant as WVU’s. PICK: West Virginia

Georgia Bulldog logo Georgia Bulldogs (-14.5) over Missouri Tigers – Georgia is too good. Missouri is overrated. The Tigers only win against cupcakes. They struggle against teams over .500. UGA is a premier team. Mizzou is a pretender. PICK: Georgia

Iowa Hawkeyes logo Iowa Hawkeyes (+3) over Wisconsin Badgers – The Hawkeyes have a dominating defense. So do the Badgers. This is a really great matchup for September. In fact, it feels like a much bigger game that should be taking place in October or November. This matchup will probably decide the B1G West Division Championship. It’s a night game under the lights in Kinnick. If you’re a college football fan, I don’t need to tell you how much of an advantage that can be for Iowa. Gary is taking the Hawks in an upset. PICK: Iowa

Nebraska Logo8 Game of the Week : Nebraska Cornhuskers (+17) over Michigan Wolverines – I know what you’re thinking. This is a homer pick. This is a biased pick. Well, the “Dutch Lion” wore down “The Gut” with a filibuster that lasted 2 days. Gary finally relented, “Fine Dutch….I’ll place money on your ‘Huskers. I’ll even make it the “Game of the Week” Selection.” Truth is the “Dutch Lion’s” son Trev is going to the Big House this week for the first time with his old man. The old man has only been there once, for an Illini game in 1996. We’re looking forward to returning to Ann Arbor, despite her reputation. If freshman phenom QB Adrian Martinez suits up for the ‘Huskers, we feel great about this pick. If he can’t go, we admit we are a bit worried about this game. However, we’re looking at a 17 point cushion. Nonetheless, we LOVE Nebraska in this matchup. Coach Scott Frost’s first B1G game? Frost is still looking for his first victory on the Nebraska sidelines since the……1997-’98 Orange Bowl mauling of Tennessee. Perhaps he gets it on Saturday in The Big House. A straight-up win? Possible but not probable. A win ATS? Probable. PICK: Nebraska. Thanks Gary. We owe you one.

That’s it for Week 4. Good luck and remember………You Gotta Believe! So put your money where your mouth is. Find that “Cash for Gold” store in your desolate town and bring in some of your old chains in exchange for some legal tender. Then place said legal tender on the five Selections above. Come Monday, see your winnings grow and your life improve, just as it did for Gary “The Gut”, as seen below.

PS: That plane in the photo……yeah, that’s Gary’s private jet. That’s how he gets to his remote island in the South Pacific. Jealous much?
