Gary “The Gut” Goombah : Week 7

Gary is HOT! Over the last two weeks “The Gut” is 8-3. That’s big news to Gary’s preferred vendors because more victories = more purchases of extravagant merchandise. These greazy salesmen are ecstatic because Gary always invests in the economy. “The Gut” typically buys American, except if a foreign product is made with better quality. Then he’ll go ahead and drop his US legal tender on an Italian sports car, or a Dutch yacht, or a Swiss watch, or maybe even a Russian bomber jacket. Don’t look it up…..trust me, the “Dutch Lion”. Just as Dutch lions are the best in the world, so are Dutch yachts. And as for Russian bomber jackets…..Wo! The quality, the comfort, the oppression of the underaged needleworkers in a communist society….it’s breathtaking really.

Week 6 Recap:

 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (-7) over Virginia Tech Hokies – I feel like Notre Dame will pull away in the 2nd half and win by more than a TD. PICK: Notre Dame…….FINAL SCORE: After leading 17-16 at halftime, Notre Dame pulled away for a 45-23 victory. A huge 22 point margin = BIG WIN!

 Arizona Wildcats (+2) over California Golden Bears – Gary loves home dogs and a fun selection this week is Arizona. ‘Zona is 12-8 as a home underdog over the last 10 years. Expect Arizona to get rolling on offense against the Cal Bears in this one in “Bear Down” country. Let’s make it 13-8. PICK: Arizona……FINAL SCORE: Arizona 24-17 = Another WIN!

 Indiana Hoosiers (+25) over Ohio St. Buckeyes – I think the Hoosiers can cover 25 points against the Buckeyes. Don’t forget Ohio St. just had the dramatic comeback victory at Penn St. last week. So they probably think they can walk on water right now. I see a letdown by the Bucks. PICK: Indiana…….FINAL SCORE: Ohio St. 49 Indiana 26 = a 23 point win……. WHEW! Another WIN!

 Boise St. Broncos (-14) over San Diego St. Aztecs – Boise’s at home on the blue smurf turf, where the Broncos dominate! Boise is 58-5 at Albertsons Stadium over the last decade. Wo! That is a nice home-field advantage. PICK: Boise St……..FINAL SCORE: San Diego St. 19 Boise St. 13……A bad performance for the Broncos on their home turf = Big LOSS.

 GAME OF THE WEEK: Texas A&M Aggies (-5.5) over Kentucky Wildcats – Kentucky’s hot but A&M is just darn good. PICK: Texas A&M…… FINAL SCORE: Texas A&M 20 Kentucky 14 in OVERTIME……Wow, this was a lucky WIN!

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS SPECIAL :  Arizona Wildcats (+13.5) over Utah Utes – The ‘Cats are getting 13 and a half points? Sign me up for this Friday Night Lights Special! Hurry up and get your money in on this game that starts at 9 pm Central tonight on ESPN. PICK: Arizona

LOCK OF THE WEEK :  Nebraska Cornhuskers (+4.5) over Northwestern Wildcats – As a Huskers diehard, I worry extra big when I talk Gary into betting on my beloved Cornhuskers. However, all my insider info tells me that Nebraska will not only cover the point spread but they will also end their long losing streak and win the game straight-up. It’s time…..and Coach Frost is due. He said in today’s press conference that his Huskers had their best week of practice since he became coach. PICK: Nebraska 

 Rutgers Scarlet Knights (+24.5) over Maryland Terrapins – Sure Rutgers sucks. They really, really do. However, Maryland isn’t all that great and 24 and a half points is a large spread. It’s like a fiesta! The final score might be something like 45-21 in favor of Maryland but we’re still gonna cover those points. PICK: Rutgers 

Co-Game of the Week :  Michigan Wolverines (-9.5) over Wisconsin Badgers – Wisconsin is a bit overrated right now while Michigan is a bit underrated. That screams bet on Michigan to Gary. Plus, it’s a night game in the Big House with a national TV audience and ESPN’s College Gameday on campus in Ann Arbor, MI. Michigan should win big and cover those points. PICK: Michigan 

Co-Game of the Week :  Georgia Bulldogs (-7.5) over LSU Tigers – The Tigers are good this year, but the Bulldogs are a different animal. Expect Georgia to be focused and motivated. This is their first big test since last year’s National Championship game vs Alabama. Surprisingly, this year’s Georgia team looks possibly better than last year’s squad. The talent and their confidence stand out to me so far. I’m no expert….but Gary is….and he’s predicting a large Georgia win on CBS’s SEC Game of the Week. PICK: Georgia
