Gary “The Gut” Goombah : Week 13

Gary “The Gut” Goombah : Week 13

It’s been a super busy week here in Illinois. We have family visiting. We’re raking and mowing the lawn despite the snow. Most of all, Gary is in a food coma after eating 3 plates worth of turkey and corn at the traditional Thanksgiving Day feast.

Therefore, let’s throw together some picks for ya. First let’s recap Week 12:

Week 12 NCAA Selections – (All selections are ATS. Point spreads were from last Friday’s Chicago Tribune.)

Friday Night Special

Boise St. logo Boise St. Broncos (-19.5) over New Mexico Lobos – PICK: Boise St………. FINAL SCORE: Boise St. 45, New Mexico 14……….. A huge win to kick off our weekend. WIN!

Kentucky Logo Kentucky Wildcats (-16) over Middle Tennessee St. Blue Raiders – PICK: Kentucky………….. FINAL SCORE: Kentucky 34, MTSU 23………. A tough loss when UK couldn’t extend a 24-10 halftime lead. LOSS

USC Logo USC Trojans (-3.5) over UCLA Bruins – PICK: USC………… UCLA 34, USC 27…….. I guess SC isn’t as good we Gary thought they were. LOSS

Nebraska Logo8 Nebraska Cornhuskers (+1.5) over Michigan St. Spartans – This pick of Gary’s hits close to home as the “Dutch Lion” is a huge Nebraska fan. “The Gut” sees a S/U ‘Huskers victory and they’re home dogs. PICK: Nebraska……….. FINAL SCORE: Nebraska 9, Michigan St. 6…….. The ‘Skers took advantage of Senior Day and overcame horrible weather to defeat the tough but offensively challenged Spartans. Huge ATS & S/U win!

GAME OF THE WEEK

Syracuse Logo Syracuse Orange (+10.5) over Notre Dame Fighting Irish – PICK: Syracuse………… FINAL SCORE: Notre Dame 36, Syracuse 3………. This one was derailed quickly when ‘Cuse starting QB Dungey was injured. After that moment, the Orange had no chance. ND played great anyway. LOSS

2018 Season Totals:

  • Week 1 : 1-4
  • Week 2 : 2-3
  • Week 3 : 2-3
  • Week 4 : 1-4
  • Week 5 : 4-2
  • Week 6 : 4-1
  • Week 7 : 2-3
  • Week 8 : 4-1
  • Week 9 : 2-3
  • Week 10 : 3-2
  • Week 11 : 2-4
  • Week 12 : 2-3
  • TOTALS: 29-33 (including 1-1 on “Locks of the Year”)

Week 13 NCAA Selections – (All selections are ATS. Point spreads are from Friday’s Chicago Tribune.)

Rivalry Week can be tough to handicap. There’s a ton of emotion. It’s usually Senior Day for one team. Weather is often a factor. And of course you have huge, live-and-die rivalries. As they say in these games, throw out the records. Nonetheless, Gary “The Gut” has 5 more Selections for your gambling addiction.

Nebraska Logo8 Nebraska Cornhuskers (+9) over Iowa Hawkeyes – Iowa is always tough at home but the ‘Huskers are turning the corner in Coach Scott Frost’s first year. PICK: Nebraska

Michigan Wolverines Logo Michigan Wolverines (-4.5) over Ohio St. Buckeyes – I’m scared of this one but Gary isn’t. Michigan is ready to dominate and finish off the regular season portion of their “Revenge Tour”. PICK: Michigan

Wisconsin Logo Wisconsin Badgers (-10.5) over Minnesota Golden Gophers – The Badgers have had a disappointing season but Minnesota isn’t very good. They can’t defend the run. Minny is 73rd in the nation in rushing defense. They are 80th in scoring defense. That sets up well for Wisky on Senior Day in Madison. PICK: Wisconsin

Texas A&M Logo Texas A&M Aggies (-3) over LSU Tigers – The Aggies aren’t getting enough love. They have the 12th Man in this one and have really grown in Coach Jimbo Fisher’s first year in College Station. PICK: Texas A&M

Notre Dame Logo Notre Dame Fighting Irish (-11) over USC Trojans – This spread is probably smaller than necessary since it’s the oldest transcontinental Rivalry in the country. The simple truth is USC just isn’t that good. ND is awesome. PICK: Notre Dame

That’s it for Rivalry Week! We hope you can feast on these Selections to earn big money on Thanksgiving weekend. Good luck! Next week…….. Championship Saturday. We’ll select all Conference Championships so get pumped for that. Until then, see ya!
