Gary “The Gut” – Week 10, ’22

Life is a gamble. So why not gamble on football? Not sure that makes sense but Gary told me to write it.

Week 9 Recap

Last week “The Gut” did so-so. He was so average it was like journeying to a destination and then finding a nightmare at the end of the journey. On one hand, you feel accomplished. On the other hand, you feel like it was all a big waste of time. Here’s what happened:

NCAA Best Bets:

• Gary “The Gut” Goombah’s “Lock of the Week”: Oklahoma State Cowboys (+1.5) over Kansas State Wildcats – LOST. This was not only a big loss, this was ridiculously funny. Sometimes, you just gotta laugh. “The Gut” felt good about the Cowboys, enough to make it his “Lock of the Week”. Instead, Oklahoma State lost 48-0!!! C’mon boys. That was so awful it was laughable.
• Florida Gators (+24) over Georgia Bulldogs – WON! Florida was able to hang on, losing by only 22 points, 42-20. We figured 24 points was too many.

• Michigan Wolverines (-22.5) over Michigan State Spartans – LOST. The hook got us as Michigan won by 22 points, 29-7. Darn those hooks!
• Wake Forest Demon Deacons (-3) over Louisville Cardinals – LOST. What happened to Wake Forest? They lost by 27 points, 48-21.
• Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+1.5) over Syracuse Orange – WON! Notre Dame won by 17 points, 41-24.
• UCLA Bruins (-16.5) over Stanford Cardinal – WON! UCLA won big, by 25 points, 38-13.
• Cincinnati Bearcats (+1) over UCF Knights – LOST. Cincinnati lost by four points, 25-21.

NFL Best Bets:

• Dallas Cowboys (-10) over Chicago Bears – WON! Dallas won an exciting game by 20 points, 49-29.
• Seattle Seahawks (-3) over New York Giants – WON! Seattle won by 14 points, 27-13.
• Buffalo Bills (-10.5) over Green Bay Packers – LOST. The hook got us again. Buffalo won by exactly ten points, 27-17.

Overall Standings Thru 9 Weeks:

• NCAA: 3-4 for the week, 28-24 for the season (4-4 on Gary’s “Lock of the Week”)
• NFL: 2-1 for the week, 12-18 for the season (1-3 on Gary’s “Lock of the Week”)
• Overall: 5-5 for the week, 40-42 for the season (5-7 on Gary’s “Lock of the Week”)

Gary “The Gut” Goombah’s Week 10 Selections

NCAA Best Bets:

• Penn State Nittany Lions (-13.5) over Indiana Hoosiers – Penn State played a really good game last week against Ohio St. The biggest concern here is the letdown after blowing their 4th quarter lead. However, “The Gut” thinks PSU will handle the Hoosiers anyway. PICK: Penn St.
• Oklahoma State Cowboys (+1.5) over Kansas Jayhawks – We know what you’re thinking… Oklahoma State again? Gary doesn’t care what you think. He’s ready to ride the Cowboys once again, for the fifth week in a row (3-1 so far). PICK: Oklahoma State
• LSU Tigers (+13.5) over Alabama Crimson Tide – As great as Alabama is, they are usually very average against the spread. Last year the Crimson Tide went 8-7 ATS and so far this year they are just 4-3. LSU is also 4-3 ATS this year. They get the Tide at home in Tiger Stadium, Death Valley, at night. PICK: LSU
• Utah Utes (-17.5) over Arizona Wildcats – “The Gut” is hesitant about the Utes if starting quarterback Cam Rising doesn’t play. He suddenly was held out last week after not showing any signs of previous injury. If Rising is back, he feels great about Utah. PICK: Utah
• Army Black Knights (+7.5) over Air Force Falcons
• Kentucky Wildcats (+1) over Missouri Tigers – Many sportsbooks have Kentucky favored in this game at Missouri. However, we found DraftKings Sportsbook has Missouri favored by a point. If you can get Kentucky as an underdog, take it. PICK: Kentucky
• North Carolina Tar Heels (-7.5) over Virginia Cavaliers
• UCLA Bruins (-10.5) over Arizona St. Sun Devils

NFL Best Bets:

• Gary’s “Lock of the Week” – Miami Dolphins (-4) over Chicago Bears – We write almost the same thing every week about Chicago. They just aren’t that good. Miami on the other hand, is very good. The Bears just gave up 49 points at Dallas WITH their best defender Roquan Smith. Now that he’s gone, along with the Bears motivation and “will to win”, they will likely get blown out by the Dolphins. We’re kind of shocked that the point spread is so low. PICK: Miami
• Cincinnati Bengals (-7) over Carolina Panthers – After playing poorly last week at Cleveland, Gary thinks the Bengals will rebound at home over the Panthers. PICK: Cincinnati
• Arizona Cardinals (-1.5) over Seattle Seahawks
• Baltimore Ravens (-2.5) over New Orleans Saints
• Los Angeles Chargers (-3) over Atlanta Falcons
