Gary “The Gut” Goombah : Week 12
November hasn’t been kind to Gary so far. Week 11 was tough. Some really bad picks “Gut”, no offense. Week 12 will be better. No pressure or anything but the gambling commission is starting to breathe down our necks, and it’s not pretty. Even Commissioner Roger Goodell was peeved since Gary selected the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals and they were absolutely destroyed by the New Orleans Saints. If Gary doesn’t know the NFL, who does! This reflects badly on Commish Goodell, although former Commish Pete Rozelle was delighted since his goal was ultimate parity. Nonetheless, let’s “Reid ‘Em & Weep” with our recap of last week’s modest Selections:
Week 11 NCAA Selections Recap
Boise St. Broncos (+3) over Fresno St. Bulldogs – Fresno has not won at Boise since…….1984. PICK: Boise State………. FINAL SCORE: Boise St. 24 Fresno St. 17……… A great win for Boise and more importantly, for Gary “The Gut”! WIN!
West Virginia Mountaineers (-11.5) over TCU Horned Frogs – The ‘Eers should be favored by more than 11 and a half in my opinion. Gary agreed. PICK: West Virginia………. FINAL SCORE: West Virginia 47 TCU 10…….. An absolute demolition for WVU. Can we get more than 1 victory here? How about 3 wins since the Mountaineers won by more than 3 times as many points as the spread? = Huge WIN!
Arizona St. Sun Devils (-13.5) over UCLA Bruins – ASU is 5-4 (6-3 ATS) while UCLA is 2-7 (3-6 ATS). The Sun Devils are playing at home in the Valley of the Sun. PICK: Arizona St…………. FINAL SCORE: Arizona St. 31 UCLA 28…………. A 3 point victory for ASU = LOSS
USC Trojans (-5) over Cal Bears – Both teams are 5-4 overall. The Trojans are only favored by 5 points. They should cover 5 easily. PICK: USC……….. FINAL SCORE: Cal 15 USC 14……….. USC lost straight up which = LOSS
Miami Hurricanes (+3.5) over Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets – PICK: Miami…… FINAL SCORE: Georgia Tech 27 Miami 21…….. A 6 point loss for Miami was close but not close enough = LOSS
NFL Special!
Cincinnati Bengals (+5.5) over New Orleans Saints – The Bengals (5-3) are at home in Cincinnati. The Saints (7-1) are coming off of that emotional big game last week in the SuperDome versus the Los Angeles Rams. I expect a letdown this week. PICK: Cincinnati………….. FINAL SCORE: New Orleans 51 Cincinnati 14…….. Can we say, “Doh!”????? A huge blowout loss makes us wonder what Gary was thinking. No offense “Gut”! = GIGANTIC LOSS!

Friday Night Special
Boise St. Broncos (-19.5) over New Mexico Lobos – We’re gonna keep riding this hot streak from Boise State! Boise is back in the rankings with an 8-2 record while New Mexico is 3-7. The Broncos are on the road in this one but should be able to handle the Lobos by at least 21 points. PICK: Boise St.
Kentucky Wildcats (-16) over Middle Tennessee St. Blue Raiders – Kentucky (7-3) has really improved this year. In his 6th year already, Coach Mark Stoops has all but assured his ‘Cats of their best record in his tenure. They will have their 3rd winning season in a row after finishing 7-6 each of the last two years. MTSU is also 7-3 but lost to Georgia earlier this season 49-7. I think Kentucky can win at home by more than 16 points easily. PICK: Kentucky
USC Trojans (-3.5) over UCLA Bruins – Southern Cal may have lost last week to Cal but I bet they get revved up for the “Battle of L.A.” This war is in the Rose Bowl. However, we just don’t think that UCLA is very good this year in Coach Chip Kelly’s first season. SC has more talent. SC has more continuity. SC is only favored by 3.5 points. No sweat! PICK: USC
Nebraska Cornhuskers (+1.5) over Michigan St. Spartans – This pick of Gary’s hits close to home as the “Dutch Lion” is a huge Nebraska fan. Gary doesn’t care about that. He cares about winning. “The Gut” sees a S/U ‘Huskers victory and they’re home dogs. PICK: Nebraska
GAME OF THE WEEK
Syracuse Orange (+10.5) over Notre Dame Fighting Irish – Once again, the “Dutch Lion” has a rooting interest in this one but Gary could care less who Dutch is cheering for. He just wants to dominate on the scoreboard and in his pocketbook. “The Gut” wants/needs a new yacht for his upcoming offseason sailing adventures so he’s ready to lay large sums of legal tender against the Irish this week. Meanwhile, “Dutch” will be cheering hard for ND so watch out for a tussle. ND is undefeated (10-0) and ranked 3rd. Syracuse is underrated (8-2) and ranked 12th. STAT: The Orange are 7-2-1 ATS this year too! This game is in Yankee Stadium in New York so technically it is a neutral site. We’ve watched the Orange this year and they are very good. Their offense is amazing. They have the best kicker in all the land. Notre Dame’s defense is much better than the ‘Cuse’s. ND better watch it. Can Syracuse win S/U? Perhaps. Can Syracuse beat the point spread? For sure. PICK: Syracuse
