Gary “The Gut” Goombah : Week 3

Gambler losing
Last week’s money went up in smoke, but today is a new day.

Gary “The Gut” Goombah has been stewing in his lavish parlor all week long after last week’s awful performance. If you placed big money on those selections, “The Gut” says sorry.

Gary went 1-3, endangering his overall performance. UCLA looked like they were being paid to take a dive in Memphis. Did you see those Bruins defenders? They were literally backing away from ball carriers. They were taking dives and giving no effort. I honestly think someone got to them with the threat of brass knuckles. Someday we may hear the story on ESPN’s “30 for 30” or “E:60”. Nonetheless, the Bruins still almost covered the 3 points, because Josh Rosen and the offense were pretty solid. It was the UCLA defense’s fault. They lost by 3, 48-45. If they could’ve scored one more touchdown, they would’ve covered with a 4 point victory.

That disappointment, along with Louisville’s awful performance at home vs Clemson and the Chicago Bears blowout defeat in Tampa made “The Gut’s” hair fall out. At least the New England Patriots covered (-6) at New Orleans, winning 36-20 to salvage the weekend.

Season Recap:

  • Week 1: 3-0-1
  • Week 2: 1-3
  • Total: 4-3-1

However, he is confident in this week’s selections so have no fears. Get out your billfolds and place wagers on the following college football games this Saturday. Remember, all selections are ATS (against the spread). Point spreads are taken from Friday’s Chicago Tribune.

NCAA Football:

Washington Logo Washington (-11.5) over Colorado

  • Last time these teams met was in last year’s Pac 12 Championship game. Do you remember the score? Washington brutally whipped the Buffs 41-10! Washington is awesome. Colorado is overrated. In fact, the only thing that scares me about this matchup is the revenge factor. I’m worried that Washington will take Colorado too lightly, while over on the other sideline at Folsom Field the Buffaloes will do anything they can to ruin the Huskies visit. And don’t forget the Buffs fans are known to be quite rude. They often throw junk on the field at the opponent. Nonetheless, I believe UW Coach Chris Petersen will have his guys prepared and the Huskies simply have too much talent. “The Gut” says to lay your money on Washington. Go Huskies!

Texas Tech Logo2Texas Tech (+6.5) over Houston

  • Gary thinks Texas Tech looks much improved over last year. This offense is EXPLOSIVE. QB Nic Shimonek has so many weapons he can’t even get them all the ball enough. He has four legitimate WR’s to choose from to throw tight spirals. Watch for #11 Derrick “Wet” Willies to star. He’s an impressive athlete that also blocks tremendously on the edge for his teammates so they can produce. Now remember, Houston is good (2-0), beating Arizona and Rice. Their DT Ed Oliver is a superstar. He will be a top 5 NFL Draft choice when he enters the league, probably in 2019. However, it won’t be enough as T-Tech rolls in Houston! “The Gut” says take those 6.5 points and ride the wind all the way to the currency exchange. (PS: Sign of a crappy town: “CASH FOR GOLD” stores in the strip mall right next to an auto insurance company that advertises “No licencia, no problema”. Oooooh, lock the doors and step on it Gary! Gotta get back to the comforts of the lavish parlor pronto!)

Nebraska Logo2 Nebraska (-12) over Rutgers

  • I know what you’re thinking…..but let me explain. Nebraska is 1-2 after losing at home to Northern Illinois. Rutgers is also 1-2 but just won 65-0! Ok, that was against Morgan St., who literally hasn’t scored a point yet this season. True story! They are 0-3 with zero points for and 101 points allowed. OMG! Meanwhile, the entire world is so against Nebraska right now including the Las Vegas oddsmakers. The fact is the Huskers are much better than they seem at this point. If you listen to the noise, people think the sky is falling. Trust me, everything will be just fine. Don’t forget this defense is improving under new DC Bobby Diaco. The Blackshirts have allowed just 7 points over their last 6 quarters against Oregon and NIU. The offense threw two pick sixes last week and that was the difference in the game as NIU squeaked out a 21-17 victory. Everything points to the Cornhuskers circling the wagons this Saturday in Lincoln. Expect a new season, the B1G season, to reinvigorate Nebraska. The Huskers will come away with a big win over Rutgers, truly one of the worst programs in the Power 5 conferences. Neb will roll by at least 20. GBR!

Michigan Logo2 Michigan (-10) over Purdue

  • People are ragging on Michigan for not scoring touchdowns once they get in the red zone. Meanwhile, people are praising Purdue for losing to Louisville, and beating Ohio and Missouri. Again, as we open B1G play, Gary fully expects Coach Jim Harbaugh’s crew to be focused and ready to destroy Purdue. Why is the line only 10 points? “The Gut” sees the Wolverines trouncing the Boilermakers by at least 21 points. Lay big cash on Michigan.

Trust me, Gary will respond in a big way this weekend! He must, or else the “brass knuckle” warnings will commence. Either that, or the repo men might start scanning the lavish parlor………..now we don’t want that……do we?
